Member Information

Being a member of TBP has many benefits, but we also have the responsibility of evaluating the character of our incoming candidates. This happens at Candidate Elections, scheduled near the end of each semester. We encourage you to get to know this semester's candidates and provide perspectives on their character. We can't judge character without you!

Since it's difficult to get to know someone without actually meeting them, we encourage you to stay active each semester to meet our new potential members! Remaining an active member each semester until graduation also makes you eligible to purchase TBP stoles and cords.

All members also receive a membership certificate, TBP key (pin or charm), membership card, and a chapter shirt. These will be available for pickup at a handful of events this semester. Stay tuned for details.

Active Membership

To be an active member, you must:

If you're unsure about whether or not you'll be able to attend enough events this semester, we do have three additional ways for you to earn event credit each semester (up to one credit each, per semester):

  1. Refer a candidate (see our eligibility checker or lists posted around campus),
  2. Be an officer in any student organization on campus (fill out this form, each semester), and
  3. Serve on a chapter committee (see below for details and information).

If you're concerned that you've become inactive in the past or that you might end up inactive this semester, please let us know (the earlier the better) and we'll work something out. We understand that things come up and you get busy, and we're happy to work with you to find a way for you to stay active this semester and get the most out of TBP. Even if you've been inactive, you're still welcome to attend any events and become active again!

Events and Mixers

The number of events (four) required to remain active varies with the number of non-required events that candidates are required to attend, although it's been four (plus a mixer) for a number of semesters now.

Chapter mixers are a great opportunity to meet candidates and other members; if you attend more than one mixer, the other will count towards your four events. We encourage you to attend the events that will benefit you the most, although keep in mind that you should be getting to know candidates (and other members) as well, and not all events are well-suited for socialization.

You can find the events planned for this semester, including the mixers, on the chapter calendar (our calendar is planned the first few weeks of the semester, and should be posted right around info sessions for new candidates).

Coffee Breaks

Coffee Breaks are an opportunity for you to meet and network with other members and candidates. Members must have at least one coffee break with a candidate, any additional coffee breaks can be with members or candidates.

These are ten-minute freeform conversations that let you talk about whatever topics you wander into. For members, coffee breaks can be with members or candidates (candidates must have some coffee breaks with members).

Coffee Break Feedback Slip

The Coffee Break Feedback Slip is a short slip that each party in the coffee break fills out afterwards about your conversation. Filling it out should only take a minute or two, you can fill it out using a paper form here (give it to any officer at an event) or using an online form here.

While we hope that you'll get to know and talk with many candidates and members to build your professional network, we are making it a requirement that you submit at least two of these feedback slips so we can track your coffee breaks. You also have the opportunity to provide some feedback, so even if you can't make con

Chapter Committees

Committees are an opportunity for you to get more involved with the chapter; any member may serve on any committee.

Committees work independently to identify potential areas of improvement, investigate solutions, and create an implementation plan. Committees set their own schedule and identify their own goals. Each committee is briefly described below.

A few weeks into each semester, the committee schedules usually known. We also be hold optional committee information sessions, which will cover what the different committees do and answer questions, so you can figure out which committee you’ll have the most fun with!

You can find the current committee calendar on our committees page, any upcoming committee info sessions should be on the regular calendar.

The three committees, along with some example charges, are:

Marketing Committee
