About Tau Beta Pi

Integrity and Excellence in Engineering

Founded in 1885, Tau Beta Pi is the oldest engineering honor society in the nation, and the only honor society representing the entire engineering profession. It is highly regarded within the industry and academia, has grown to include 250 collegiate chapters, and has initiated more than 609,000 members. It was created to give distinction to its members not only in school, but in their careers as well.

Tau Beta Pi's mission is to recognize academic and professional excellence rooted in personal integrity, promote a well-rounded education which is essential for success, provide opportunities for leadership development, promote lifelong learning, and to cultivate a community of dedicated high achievers.

As seen in the logo of this webpage or in between the Engineering building and EIS building on campus, the official badge of Tau Beta Pi is a watch key in the form of the bent of a trestle. The bent "indicates that the wearer can think and work, that he has initiative and independence, and that he can be trusted", as stated in 1906 by Tau Beta Pi President G.A. Goodenough. The colors of Tau Beta Pi are seal brown and white.

The members of the SDSU California Xi Chapter are proud of our active participation within the college and local community. Since its founding in 1973, our chapter has initiated over 2,100 members and continues to grow. With chapter membership and activity increasing steadily over the last few years, this is an exciting time to join Tau Beta Pi.

See the national website (www.tbp.org) for more information about the association.
