Welcome to Tau Beta Pi

Thank you for your interest in Tau Beta Pi. Tau Beta Pi is the nation's largest engineering honor society and the only honor society representing all majors of engineering. We encourage you to browse our site to find out more information about Tau Beta Pi and discover your next steps toward becoming a member. You are also encouraged to attend one of our upcoming events listed at the bottom of this page.

Once a member of Tau Beta Pi, you're a member for life. You don't have to pay a membership fee each year, and if you remain active throughout your SDSU career, you'll be able to graduate with a set of stoles and cords. After you graduate, there are opportunities to continue your involvement both within San Diego and nationwide.

Tau Beta Pi has been a dynamic and integral part of the engineering profession for more than a century. It is committed to the development of engineers of exemplary character so they will be leaders both on their campuses today and in the rapidly changing world of tomorrow. Members of Tau Beta Pi make an impact in all walks of life, not just engineering. The members of our chapter are proud of our active participation within the college and local community.

On behalf of our members and officers, congratulations to all those who are eligible to join us this semester. Realize that you have been recognized as a distinguished engineering student at San Diego State. We are looking forward to meeting you at one of our information sessions or our Engineering BBQ. You can find more details on our calendar.

If you're unsure about your eligibility, you can check it online at our eligibility page.

Noteworthy Upcoming Events

Welcome to 2024!

Welcome to the spring semester! We're excited to be back on campus and hope you'll join us.

Our eligibility list has been posted; you've probably already seen it around campus. You can check your eligibility online here.

Also, since it's "what does my schedule look like today?" season, and mySDSU's timetable view has left us wanting, we made a tool to view your classes in a grid similar to webportal.

Candidate Interviews - Feb. 29 through Mar. 3

Your candidate interview is your first mandatory event of the semester and our officers are very excited to meet you. Interviews are important for us to begin learning who you are and why you want to join Tau Beta Pi.

Full information on the interview process (what to bring, how to prepare) is available on our candidates page. We ask that you sign-up for a single twenty-minute interview slot; the sign-up link can be found in your email and on our calendar.

If you cannot attend an interview this weekend, we will be hosting make-up interviews another time. Please email us so we can gauge the level of interest and schedule adequate times.

Note: It's not too late to start your membership process for Spring 24! We recommend that you attend an info session prior to your interview when possible. Please email us to arrange a short one-on-one session if you have not already attended one.

Tau Beta Pi Day Party, Potluck, and Pi Contest - Saturday, March 16, 3:14pm to 6:28pm

To celebrate Tau Beta Pi Day (3.14), Tau Beta Pi is celebrating with a Pi themed party! You're encouraged to bring your favorite Pi-themed dish to share (e.g. Pie, Pizza Pie, Pineapple).

We will be giving out prizes in three (point one four...) categories:

  1. Best Sweet Dish
  2. Best Savory Dish
  3. Best Pi Theme
Everyone will get the chance to vote on (and eat!) their favorites, but you can only win if you bring a dish!

We will also have some other Pi-themed activities and contests, such as a Piñata!
We've invited the other San Diego TBP chapters, so you'll get a chance to meet (and network with!) Tau Bates from UCSD, USD, and the San Diego alumni chapter. It's also a Chapter Mixer for your Candidate/Member requirements!

We're looking forward to seeing (and tasting!) your best receipes!
