[Staff] Bronze Level Award with Exemplar Status: ASEE Diversity Recognition Program

To: Engineering Faculty and Staff:

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to inform you that the American Society for Engineering
Education has granted our College the Bronze Level Award in the framework
of the ASEE Diversity Recognition Program. In addition to the Bronze Level
Award, our College is given the “Exemplar” status. This is the highest
level ASEE issued so far in this Program.  The Bronze level recognition
means that our College is among the nation’s leaders in inclusive
excellence.  It demonstrates that the College is committed to the following
outcomes: 1) Establishing baseline support for groups underrepresented in
engineering 2) Quantifiably analyzing and assessing College composition,
policies, culture, and climate related to all groups underrepresented in
engineering. 3) Implementing programs and initiatives that strengthen the
K-12 or community college pipeline thereby reducing significant barriers
related to long-term growth. (4) Developing an action plan focused on
continuous improvement.

I would like to thank Prof. Mahasweta Sarkar and Assistant Dean Theresa
Garcia for preparing the application materials, which included the
description of our existing diversity programs, the plan of proactive
strategies to increase diverse representation in faculty, and the diversity
management plan.

I believe that we should consider this Award as an incentive to actively
develop our diversity, equity, and inclusion programs. We will need to
carry out a lot of future work in this important area.
