Re: Graduate and Research Affairs' Pilot Program: Call for funding to
support research assigned time for mid-career faculty
Dear Colleagues,
Funds are available to support 3 units per semester of research assigned
time for 1 semester. In exceptional cases, faculty may apply for 2
semesters of support. However, the number of 2 semester allocations will
be limited. Assignment of assigned time is dependent on department chair
and College Dean approvals given that GRA only provides funding, but cannot
allocate assigned time. Funds will be available for assigned time in the
2020-21 academic year.
*Eligibility*
These funds are available to all tenured faculty who received tenure from
their home department after or during the spring semester 2011. All faculty
participating in this program will still need to be teaching at least 3
units in the semester for which the additional funding is provided. No
faculty member will be awarded funding who is not concurrently teaching 3
units.
*Limited Submission:*
Colleges are limited to a total of 6 submissions per college. Each Dean
may generate a list of specific types of evidence of scholarship as
appropriate to their college and disciplines.
*Proposal*: Each proposal, which is limited to 2 pages should include the
following items:
· *Project Title*: Brief Description of the Request
· *Description: *The faculty member will need to outline how the
assigned time will be used to achieve a specific research goal that helps
move their scholarship forward. Funds may be proposed for specific
research goals: e.g. development and submission of a new research proposal;
time to acquire a new research skill or technique, time to complete a
nearly completed book; development of primary data needed for subsequent
proposal submission.
· *Semester(s) requested (Fall, or Spring, or both)*
*Additional Support Materials*
· *Evidence of current scholarship*. All faculty nominated will
need to provide a short CV (3 pages maximum length) that highlights
evidence of current academic scholarship and success within the past 3
years as appropriate to their discipline (e.g. publications, grants,
awards, keynote addresses, or juried or curated exhibitions and
performances)
· *Letter of suppor*t from the Department Chair highlighting the
accomplishments of the faculty member (one page maximum length) will need
to be submitted along with the application.
*Deadlines*. All proposals should be received in CoE Dean's Office by
February 7, 2020.
Electronic copies should be sent to Interim Associate Dean Garoma at
tgaroma at sdsu.edu.
Best regards,
Eugene
