Hi Allen,

I’m trying to get as many co-signers as possible of the proposal below to
introduce legislation to mandate 53% of the CSU budget goes to instruction
(i.e. faculty and lecturers). If you and any of your colleagues in
engineering could add your name that would be very helpful. I’m hoping to
send this out by the end of the week. Please let me know of any names I
could add. Please feel free to forward this by email to all faculty in your
college. They can email me directly if they are willing to have their name
attached.

Dear Colleagues,

Attached is a proposal that I will be sending soon to the political action
committee of the California Faculty Association. This committee selects
faculty submitted proposals to move through the legislative process. In
essence, this is a proposal for California legislation that mandates the
percentage of the operational CSU budget going to instruction be raised
from the current (atrocious) 34% to at least the 53% level of the early
1990’s, by yearly increments of about 3%.

I feel that the proposal will have a much stronger chance of success if it
gains support from a significant number of faculty here at SDSU (and
possibly at other campuses). Therefore if you support this proposal I ask
that you co-sponsor it by adding your name. If you are willing to do so,
please simply reply to me by email. You do not have to be a CFA member to
be a co-signer. I will include your name, department, and position when I
send it for consideration.
