RF Dielectric Characterization Software: KappaExtractor is an application that has been developed to assist in the extraction of the complex permittivity of a dielectric. KappaExtractor can extract the dielectric constant, loss tangent, surface roughness, and cavity height. This is accomplished using the measurements taken from a square dielectric-filled cavity resonator. The cavity can be constructed on a board with a via fence. A least squares curve fitting algorithm finds the parameters that best fit the measurement. In addition, the tool can compute Debye model coefficients for frequency dependent permittivity for use in full-wave solvers.
