To Engineering Faculty,

Please see the email below with regard to the Alumni Award for Outstanding
Faculty Contributions. So far the Dean's Office has received one
nomination. I just got word from the Faculty Affairs that the University
Committee would prefer to have two nominees because there is no guarantee
that they will choose our only nominee. Since it is important for the
College to have an award recipient, I would like to ask for more
nominations. Please submit your nomination forms (preferably with a CV of
the nominee) by the end of Wednesday 2/25.

Dear Colleagues,

For your information, a campus-wide announcement regarding Alumni Award
Nominations for faculty members (for awardees to be honored in the 2015-16
academic year) will be posted on SDSU/NewsCenter for the next few weeks.
To stimulate more nominations, I ask that you also announce the alumni
award process in your college.  Nominations may be made by students, staff,
faculty members, administrators, alumni, or other members of the university
community.  The nominations are to be submitted *directly to the dean’s
office*, on or before *Monday, February 16, 2015*.  The awardees will be
honored during the Fall 2015 semester in addition to a cash award.

Attached is the internal time schedule for the process and the section from
the Senate Policy File.  When you receive the nominations, I request that
you do the following:

1.      On Monday, *2/23/2015*, please forward *just the names* of the
nominees to Charleen Lalley in Faculty Affairs at clalley at mail.sdsu.

2.      Appoint and confer with a college committee designed to review
nominations for the award.  The dean's office shall provide the committee
with information regarding the nominations.  It will be the responsibility
of the college committee to obtain vitae (if not submitted with the
nomination form) and supporting documentation of nominees.  According to
the Senate Policy File (section 2.34), the committee shall submit the
unranked nominations with written rationales for the committee's choices
that convey the value of each candidate's contribution.  Please keep in
mind that it is expected that each college committee shall submit no more
than *three unranked* nominations to the dean's office (colleges with fewer
than 50 tenured, probationary, and FERP faculty may submit two unranked
nominations).

3.      After the college committee has submitted their three unranked
nominations to your office, please forward the nominations
*electronically *(including
all supporting documents) to the Faculty Honors and Awards Committee (FHC), *in
care of the Office of Faculty Affairs, at clalley at mail.sdsu.edu
<clalley at mail.sdsu.edu>*.

4.      You may wish to prepare a cover memo to accompany the nominations,
however, the nominations are to be submitted unranked to the FHC.  You are
*not* required to include a letter of support.
