Greetings Engineering Faculty,
It would be a great relationship builder between SDSU's College of
Engineering and Lincoln High School to have a COE faculty and/or graduate
student team compete in the event below:
Lincoln Industry Partnership Team Meeting
December 2, 2010
Student Versus Industry Science Bowl Challenge will be held on Wednesday,
February 23, 2011 from 6-8pm in the Lincoln High Library. This event is to
help prepare the Lincoln High student teams for its regional competition
sponsored by the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of
Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE). This year, Joe Wiseman,
the Vice Principal at Lincoln High's Center for Science and Engineering, has
invited SDSU college students (undergrad and graduate levels) and professors
to form a 4-player team and compete in this challenge. The competition
format is a fast-paced question-and-answer quiz game similar to Jeopardy.
It is important to keep in mind the following question categories when
forming teams: astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, general
science, mathematics, and physics. In addition, up to 20% of all questions
asked will be about African-American scientists, engineers, inventors and
their work.
There is a Team Sign-Up Form that needs to be turned in to Joe (email or
fax) by February 10, 2011. Access to sample questions can be found at:
http://www.scied.science.doe.gov/nsb/hs/samplqs.htm. Anyone interested can
email Michelle Jordan (mjordan at projects.sdsu.edu) by January 3, 2011 so she
can let the Vice Principal know at the next Partnership Team Meeting (which
is on January 6, 2011) whether or not we will have an SDSU team.
I am copying this message to my colleague in the College of Sciences to
forward to their faculty as well. Hopefully between the 2 colleges we can
send one faculty team.
If you have any questions please ask Michelle Jordan with the MESA Schools
Program, email above.
Thanks,
Theresa M. Garcia, M.A.
