D. G. FAULKNER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM GROUND RULES

PURPOSE:To encourage students interested in aerospace engineering to continue a college education.  

SCHOLARSHIP: One scholarship of $2,000 will be awarded.  The award is made possible by a donation from , in memory of CAPT. (Ret.) Doc George Faulkner.

NAME OF SCHOLARSHIP: The scholarship program is known as the D.G. FAULKNER SCHOLARSHIP.  CAPT. Doc G. Faulkner devoted his life to his family, the U.S. Navy, and teaching students at the U. S. Naval Academy and San Diego State University (SDSU).  Since 1981 he also was very active with the American Institute or Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).  Retiring from SDSU in 1992, he stayed on as a faculty advisor on a voluntary basis, where he continued to guide young minds through college and into the professional world of engineering.  
 
ELIGIBILITY : To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must meet the minimum requirements:
1. Student shall be a junior or senior at San Diego State University
2. Student shall be pursuing a degree in aerospace engineering
3. Student shall be an AIAA Member

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: To apply for the scholarship, candidates must submit the following:
1. Application
2. Resume 
3. Official transcript from San Diego State University
4. Two (2) letters of recommendation, one from each of the following:
   a. AIAA Senior Member with at least 5 years of professional engineering experience
   b. Aerospace Engineering professor from San Diego State University
5. Essay of description of his/her interests and goals (2 pages max).  Include history of what led you to a career in aerospace.

The application, and other supporting documents must be postmarked by April 28, 2010.

The Faulkner Scholarship Selection Committee will review applications.

SCHOLARSHIP JUDGING FACTORS: Judging will be based on the following: academic achievement, interest in aerospace, leadership and teamwork skills, community involvement and extra-curricular activities.  
 
SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT: The winner will be notified by May 1, 2010 and payment will be made no later than June 1, 2010.  The winner will be honored at the mid-May, San Diego AIAA Section Annual Awards Banquet and Officer Installation. 
 
REGULATIONS: Acceptance of this scholarship does not prohibit winners from receiving other scholarships.
