Title: Research Experiences for Undergraduates

SYNOPSIS: This program is appropriate for motivated
undergraduate students majoring in engineering, biology, chemistry,
computer sciences, mathematics, physics or related disciplines. One of
the program goals is to promote the success of women and
underrepresented minorities in science and engineering. Successful
applicants will spend the majority of their summer conducting original
research under the supervision of your advisor(s), alongside other
members of the research community at KGI, for a minimum of 40h/week.
During the research program they will have access to state-of-the-art
equipment in their advisor's lab and the various core facilities at
KGI, and will have ample opportunities for one-on-one interactions
with senior researchers.

OBJECTIVES: The REU program for undergraduate research in
biotechnology and bioengineering at Keck Graduate Institute provides
undergraduate students the opportunity for cutting-edge,
interdisciplinary research in the areas of bioengineering,
computational biology, and applied molecular and cellular biology, as
well as exposure to related ethics and business topics. The sponsor
hopes to give successful applicants a realistic insight regarding what
to expect during graduate school in a field related to the applied
life sciences, or pursuing a research career in the biotech
industry.
