Subject: Additional Information on Extended Anthem Student Advantage
Coverage for Fall 2022
To: <tgaroma at sdsu.edu>

Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to share an additional update regarding the recently
announced extension of the Anthem Student Advantage plan for our Graduate
Student Health Insurance Plan (GSHIP) eligible students for the Fall 2022
semester.

In addition to this email sent to all GSHIP-eligible students
<http://click.comms.sdsu.edu/?qs=f2b2c2f8b47aca5ae0b50784a79142936db9fe96977948bec15e3a56148eb90d6fe1399d71b63c57d3d787d69e98f6fba9f1af569084ca71>
moments ago, included at the end of this message, we are providing
additional information regarding new JDP students not yet on the San Diego
State University Research Foundation (SDSURF) payroll.

As detailed in today’s email to our students, the extension of the Anthem
Student Advantage plan for the fall 2022 semester provides the opportunity
to prevent gaps in coverage for students who had previously been encouraged
to switch to the SDSURF JDP Scholar Exempt classification.

SDSURF will be pausing adding any new JDP students to its JDP Scholar
Exempt classification in order to assess how best to realign with the
university for the upcoming spring semester.
Existing students already in the JDP Scholar Exempt classification may
choose to remain under SDSURF insurance coverage. Below, you will find
updated instructions for all other JDP students.

*New JDP students not yet on SDSURF payroll* but intended to be paid on
grants or other funds through SDSURF:

   - Supervisors should appoint JDP students to the Graduate Student
Temporary Hourly (TS) classification and *students* must complete the
new hire process before they begin work.

   - SDSURF *cannot reimburse* students for insurance coverage obtained
elsewhere, including SDSU-negotiated Anthem insurance plans. For the fall
semester, new JDP students should enroll in either Anthem, or Covered
California and will be eligible for a scholarship for reimbursement.

   - For any faculty already in process of appointing new JDP students to
the JDP SE classification, please contact SDSURF Human Resources via the HR
   virtual front desk
   <http://click.comms.sdsu.edu/?qs=f2b2c2f8b47aca5a1882fcb5c79eaea4c2f1e0997236e0f116a7c3222d7fa5ac447879561eeab6e56b089e80636e68699e5acf7748ddedec>
to be connected to a live representative or via email at
sdsurfhr at sdsu.edu <sdsurfhr at sdsu.edu?subject=> for assistance in
   adjusting the classification.

*Existing JDP students currently employed on grants or other funds through
SDSURF: *

   - *Domestic JDP* students already employed in the JDP Scholar
classification who waived SDSURF insurance to enroll in Anthem Student
Advantage coverage during the 2021-22 academic year will no longer have a
lapse in coverage if they choose to remain in Anthem Student Advantage for
the Fall 2022 semester. Students will need to re-enroll via the dedicated
JCB insurance portal, as outlined above.

   - *International JDP* students already employed in the JDP Scholar
classification who waived SDSURF insurance to take Anthem International
Student coverage will no longer be eligible for reimbursement.
International JDP students who are enrolled in an Anthem plan are eligible
for a scholarship for the Fall 2022 semester and should follow the steps
detailed in the “Scholarships for Eligible Students” section above.

   - *International or domestic JDP* students who were hired as temporary
hourly employees through SDSURF, and who had health insurance coverage
promised in their admittance letters, are not eligible for benefits through
SDSURF and will not be eligible to be reimbursed through SDSURF for
benefits obtained elsewhere. Students may enroll in Anthem or Covered
California, are eligible for a scholarship for the Fall 2022 semester and
should follow the steps outlined above.

   - *Master’s students who are hired as temporary hourly employees*
through SDSURF are not eligible for SDSURF benefits and will not be
eligible to be reimbursed by SDSURF for benefits obtained elsewhere. If you
were previously enrolled in Anthem Student Advantage through the Graduate
Student Health Insurance Program (GSHIP) during the 2021-22 academic year
and had your health insurance reimbursed through SDSU or SDSURF, you may be
eligible for a scholarship and should also follow the steps in the
“Scholarships for Eligible Students” section of this email.
