[Faculty] Formation of Pool for Hiring Committees [SDSU FUERTE]

Dear Colleagues,


SDSU was recently awarded a new Center grant, SDSU FUERTE, designed to hire
a cluster of 11 faculty who conduct Latinx health disparity research. The
SDSU FUERTE abstract is attached.



As part of this process, the FUERTE PIs, Drs. Mark Reed and Mari Zúñiga,
are reaching out to colleges in which the 11 new faculty may eventually be
hired (Arts & Letters, Engineering, Health and Human Services, Professional
Studies and Fine Arts, Sciences, and SDSU Imperial Valley) to request
self-nominations of faculty who may be willing to serve on one of three
Hiring Committees. *At this time, your self-nomination or nomination of a
fellow faculty (with their permission) is requested to establish a pool
from which the three Committees will be formed*.



Selection of the three Hiring Committees will be based on faculty expertise
in Latinx health disparities and FUERTE core research area coverage,
feedback from the Recruitment Committee, and in consultation with College
Deans.



The pool is open to faculty with expertise in Latinx health disparities
broadly and/or any of the three FUERTE research areas falling under Latinx
health disparities (1. Environmental Health, 2. Obesity/Physical
Activity/Nutrition Science, 3. Cancer Disparities) and who would be willing
to serve on the hiring committee.


*Once the pool is formed, College T/TT faculty will be asked to vote on the
pool of nominations.*

Recognizing that the Hiring Committee will be asked to review applications
during the December 2021/January 2022 winter break period, members will be
offered $1,000 as compensation for their time. Attached are details of
the committee formation process and a pdf overview of the FUERTE program.
