Subject: Fall 2021 Final Grade Submission Deadline Reminder

Dear Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, and College Coordinators,
I hope that this email finds you all well!
As the end of the term approaches, I am once again asking for your
assistance in reminding the faculty in your college of the *Fall 2021 *
grades deadline, as well as providing additional information related to the
student option for Credit/No Credit.
*The Fall 2021 Grade Submission Deadline is December 30, 2021 at 11PM. *This
is also the deadline to resolve any outstanding Fall 2020 Incomplete grades.
Grading will open at 5AM tomorrow, the first day of finals (Friday,
December 10) and close at 11PM on Thursday, December 30. It is very
important that we receive all grades by the deadline to minimize impact to
students. Late and missing grades impact the jobs that run to calculate
academic status, move students from a pre-major to the upper-division
major, verify registration contingencies, and auto-graduate students. *Please
note that the Office of the Registrar will be unavailable during the campus
holiday (December 24 through December 29), thus we encourage faculty to
submit grades as soon as possible to ensure support is available if needed.*
*Credit/No Credit Grade Option*
Many students have exercised the option to change their grading basis from
Letter grade to Credit/No Credit. Student grading basis is displayed in
WebGrades and faculty will only be able to assign a grade that is valid for
the student's chosen gading basis (i.e. a grade of Credit cannot be awarded
for a student who has chosen Letter grade, and a letter grade cannot be
awarded for a student who has chosen Cr/NC).
For undergraduate students, a grade of Credit is awarded for work
equivalent to a course letter grade of C (2.0) or better. No Credit is
awarded for work equivalent to a course letter grade of C- (1.7) or less
For graduate students, a grade of Credit in graduate level courses is
awarded for work equivalent to a course letter grade of B (3.0) or better.
No Credit is awarded for work equivalent to a course letter grade of B-
(2.7) or less
*Other Grade Options*
You may also wish to remind faculty of the following grade options. We have
found that occasionally when faculty do not grade a student, it is because
they are unsure of the appropriate grade to assign:
- *WU (Withdrawal Unauthorized)*: The symbol WU indicates that a student
enrolled in a course, did not withdraw from the course, but failed to
complete course requirements. It is used when, in the opinion of the
instructor, the number of completed assignments or course activities or
both were insufficient to make possible a normal evaluation of academic
performance. *For purposes of grade point average computation, this symbol
is equivalent to an F.* If the student attended a portion of a course and
then, after receiving failing grades, stopped attending without officially
withdrawing, a final grade of F not WU should be assigned. WU grades can
only be assigned to students who have selected Letter Grade as
their grading basis; a grade of NC (No Credit) should be used for students
who have selected Credit/No Credit.
- *I (Incomplete)*: The symbol I indicates that a portion of required
coursework has not been completed and evaluated in the prescribed time
period due to unforeseen, but fully justified, reasons and that there is
still a possibility of earning credit. An incomplete can be assigned for
students who have chosen either Letter Grade or Credit/No Credit as
their grading basis. More information regarding an Incomplete grade can be
found on our website:

Thank you all for your assistance!
