Two of the graduating SDSU Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC)
scholars are Environmental Engineering Majors

Lorelay Mendoza and Anita Sanchez will be graduating May 18th with a B.S.
in Environmental Engineering.  Both are scholars the Maximizing Access to
Research Careers Program (MARC) Undergraduate Student Training in Academic
Research (U*STAR) is sponsored by the National Institutes of General
Medical Sciences. The Program provides support for undergraduate students
who are underrepresented in the biomedical and behavioral sciences to
improve their preparation for high-caliber graduate training at the Ph.D.

Lorelay was accepted to various masters and doctoral programs (USC, UC
Berkeley, UC Davis, Oregon State University, Stanford, CU Boulder....).
Ultimately she accepted the MS to PhD program in Civil and environmental
engr at Stanford.  In addition, Lorelay was one of two SDSU Undergraduates
awarded the highly competitive 2019 National Science Foundation (NSF)
Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) award this month.  Lorelay is
also a Fullbright awardee.

Anita was accepted into various masters and doctoral programs (Penn state,
CU Boulder, Cornell, Stanford, Columbia, UC Berkeley...).  Ultimately she
accepted the PhD Program in Civil and Environmental Engineering at
Cornell.  Anita is also an active member of SDSU's MESA program and the
CSU-LSAMP at SDSU program where she has been nominated for a CSU-LSAMP Program
for Recognition of Undergraduate Distinction (PROUD) award.
