Subject: Teaching and Learning in Fall 2018

Welcome to the new academic year! As always, the Center for Teaching and Learning will host a series of complimentary lunches, workshops and other programs throughout the year, and the Fall slate of events is now available <http://comm.sdsu.edu/DB4100h0PMo00B00pz050ws> .

You may notice some differences in this year's programming. To build a stronger community of teacher-scholars, and encourage faculty to try out new ideas for the classroom, there will be fewer one-time lunches and more opportunities for deeper discussion of specific topics through Learning Circles <http://comm.sdsu.edu/TizBB0500000oM500p1swP0> . Descriptions of all events are available here <http://comm.sdsu.edu/x0B0000B0600pzM0jw15oPs> . You can register now for individual September events at sdsu-ctl.eventbrite.com <http://comm.sdsu.edu/NM007Bsw00005BP0kz10o0p> or check the CTL website <http://comm.sdsu.edu/g80o1zp0s000MP0wB000lB5> for links to sign up for specific Learning Circles. Registration for later events will open about a month prior to the event date so make sure you are subscribed to the CTL newsletter <http://comm.sdsu.edu/c0100s5B0pzM00wPm0o9B00> to receive those announcements. The newsletter also includes current news, tips and links of interest to SDSU instructors.

If you can't make it to our in-person events, keep in mind that the CTL also has many online teaching resources, including access to the 20-Minute Mentor Commons <http://comm.sdsu.edu/ZMz1500nw0000s0oa00pPBB> from Magna Publications. This online collection of 20-minute videos features top experts in higher education and provides targeted faculty development programs, grounded in sound educational theory with practical solutions to common classroom challenges. You do need to create an account; follow these registration instructions <http://comm.sdsu.edu/q0PB0w0opo0z1B00M05b00s> to ensure your account is connected to the SDSU license [note that access is restricted to members of the San Diego State community].

The CTL website <http://comm.sdsu.edu/g80o1zp0s000MP0wB000lB5> also has numerous resources for instructors, including links and advice about specific teaching topics, a compilation of all University policies related to teaching, a Faculty Resource Guide with links to campus resources and answers to frequently asked questions, and Faculty profiles that highlight innovative work being done by faculty across the University.

Here's to a smooth and productive year!
