Hello Everybody,
I am in need of your help…
For the past several weeks, I have been gathering surplus items together
from various labs/offices and storing them at the end of the hallway down
on the first floor of our building. On Monday, September 19, it was
discovered that a large portion of these items have been “removed” as I
prepared to send these items to property. Campus policy dictates I must
report this incident to Public Safety as a theft crime – *Public Safety now
has a complete list of all the missing equipment, including their serial
and State tag numbers.*
It is understandable that some would consider it a waste to send any
equipment off to surplus, thereby giving it new home or new purpose. But
protocol is such that the transfer of State property belonging to the ECE
department must be processed through me so I can properly document who has
possession of this property. Once this process is complete, the item can
then be kept indefinitely in any lab or office.
I realize that anybody could have removed this equipment, including
students and transients so I want to get the word out to everybody. If by
chance you know of anyone in possession of these items, please advise them
to contact me ASAP or simply return the items back to the 1st floor
hallway. Worth noting - while I can assign equipment to employees here on
campus, I cannot assign equipment to students.
If, by chance, any of this equipment is in your possession, please contact
me ASAP before the crime report is finalized on October 1st so I can
properly document the new location this of equipment; or if you wish to
relinquish the equipment, you can simply return it to me or the surplus
pile on the 1st floor so it can go to property. This will be the only “No
Questions Asked” period provided.
Once the crime report is finalized October 1st, any unauthorized possession
of stolen equipment may lead to arrest by Public Safety which may also lead
to other consequences provided by law.
Thank you for your help and support in this matter.
Sincerely,
Mark Bruno
