<div dir="ltr">Dear Eugene,<div><br></div><div>My goodness... congratulations...a full plate indeed!</div><div><br></div><div>fred</div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Tue, May 10, 2016 at 4:06 PM, Monte Mehrabadi <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:mehrabadi@sdsu.edu" target="_blank">mehrabadi@sdsu.edu</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr"><div><div dir="ltr"><font color="#000000">To Engineering Faculty and Staff:</font></div><div dir="ltr"><font color="#000000"><br></font></div>As I communicated to you earlier, due to the recent growth in enrollment and increase in the number of new faculty joining the College, we need to restructure and divide the duties of the position of the Associate Dean of Engineering into the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research and the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies.  <br><br>It is my pleasure to inform you that Dr. Eugene Olevsky, Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the current Director of the Joint Doctoral Program has agreed to serve as the inaugural Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research.  I would like to thank the faculty and staff who provided their input and helped me throughout this process. <br><br>As the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Olevsky will be responsible for overseeing initiatives that support and enhance the graduate programs and the research enterprise within the College of Engineering including:</div><div><br></div><blockquote style="margin:0px 0px 0px 40px;border:none;padding:0px"><div><font color="#000000">1. Managing and growing the Joint Doctoral Program (JDP) and other existing graduate programs and developing new graduate programs.</font></div><div><font color="#000000"><br></font></div><div><font color="#000000">2. Facilitating the organizational and institutional support for major research initiatives and proposals, mentoring new faculty, reviewing proposals, assisting faculty in identifying new research opportunities especially those that are interdisciplinary.</font></div><div><font color="#000000"><br></font></div><div><font color="#000000">3. Serving as liaison to the SDSU Research Foundation, managing grants and contracts (approving the proposal routing forms, indirect costs, and cost sharing), and research infrastructure.</font></div><div><font color="#000000"><br></font></div><div><font color="#000000">4. Ensuring responsible research conduct and research s</font>afety.</div><div><font color="#000000"><br></font></div><div><font color="#000000">5. Developing research collaborations with San Diego's robust local engineering industry and governmental laboratories, overseeing the College’s technology transfer and industrial research relations, and approving requests for consultant or other service agreements.</font></div><div><font color="#000000"><br></font></div><div><font color="#000000">6. Managing data collection and reporting for collegiate research and graduate programs.</font></div><div><font color="#000000"><br></font></div><div><font color="#000000">7. Coordinating with Department Chairs the scheduling of graduate courses, the resolution of course conflicts, and the allocation of assigned time for research.</font></div><div><font color="#000000"><br></font></div><div><font color="#000000">8. Working with the College Curriculum Committee and reviewing graduate curriculum proposals.</font></div></blockquote><div><font color="#000000"><br></font></div><div><font color="#000000">Please join me in wishing Eugene well in his new role as Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research in the College of Engineering.</font></div><div><font color="#000000"><br></font></div><div><font color="#000000">Thanks,</font></div><div><font color="#000000"><br></font></div><div><font color="#000000">Monte</font></div></div>
