San Diego State University is committed to providing a safe and secure
environment that promotes the well-being and success of the campus
community.

Although it is unlikely that you may face an active shooter incident, the
University Police Department’s (UPD) goal is to ensure each member of the
SDSU community is best prepared when reacting to a wide range of
emergencies.

As a reminder, our Active Shooter Response Safety Initiative offers you and
your staff a variety of active shooter safety response resources. We
encourage you and your staff to incorporate these resources into your
department meetings and/or training.

*Watch the SDSU Active Shooter Safety Video*
[image: active-shooter.jpg] <http://comm.sdsu.edu/K00s1BM00pD80Ewoj03z0P0>

This 11-minute, comprehensive, SDSU-specific active shooter safety training
video details possible ways to respond during active shooter incidents, how
to sign up for SDSU alerts, and how to identify warning signs of an
individual who may want to harm others.

*Attend or Schedule an In-Person Presentation*
The University Police Department’s Community Resource Officer is available
to provide 1-hour, in-person presentations to any campus groups,
organizations and departments.

Additionally, UPD’s Community Resource Officer (CRO) offers Crime
Prevention Through Environmental Design (C.P.T.E.D.) assessments to
identify ways to mitigate risk and deter crime. After assessing a campus
facility or office space, the CRO will provide safety recommendations that
may pertain to access control, lighting, landscape design, office space
layout and barriers.

Please email cro.pd at sdsu.edu to schedule an in-person active shooter safety
presentation or to request a C.P.T.E.D. assessment.

*Visit the SDSU Active Shooter Safety Webpage*
All community members can access the active shooter safety page by visiting
police.sdsu.edu/ActiveShooterSafety. Please note: The website includes
informational flyers and pocket-sized cards for downloading.

Safety is a shared responsibility and I encourage you to familiarize
yourself with the latest resources available.

Together, we make our campus a safe campus.

Josh Mays
Chief of Police
