Dear SDSU Faculty Member:
As we near the semester break the SDSU Bookstore Advisory Committee would like to pass along important messages about the following:
HEOA and the importance of getting course materials requisitions turned in
The SDSU Bookstore Rent-to-Save program
An Exclusive Holiday Evening at the Bookstore for Faculty and Staff
The Annual Costas Lyrintzis Award
1. HEOA and the importance of getting course materials requisitions turned in: A new provision of the Higher Education Opportunity Act, effective July 1, 2010, asks faculty and bookstores to work together to get requisitions in as early as possible. Timely delivery of requisitions enables students to get their book information earlier and to save money on their textbooks. If the bookstore gets your requisition by Friday, December 3, it increases the amount students receive when selling their books at buyback and lowers book costs for students in the Spring, enabling them to buy or rent more used books. For a class of 500 students an early requisition could impact students positively by as much as $25,000. Early requisitions also help the Bookstore get information to Student Disability Services so that students with disabilities have content available for the start of classes. For information on textbook requisitions, please contact your buyer or Tony Sanjume, course materials director, at extension 4-7495.
2. An Exclusive Holiday Evening at the Bookstore for Faculty and Staff: The SDSU Bookstore’s Annual Holiday Event is Wednesday, December 1, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The store will serve light refreshments and offer exciting discounts for faculty and staff including: 30% off SDSU- imprinted clothing and gifts, 20% off general books, $10 off iPods, special Buy-4-Get-1-Free pricing on greeting cards, 30% off calendars, and free gift-wrapping and more. Special offers on M.A.C. Cosmetics and AT&T mobile service contracts will also be available.
3. The SDSU Bookstore Rent-to-Save program: Students rented more than 27,000 books from the SDSU Bookstore (San Diego and Imperial Valley campuses) in the fall semester saving over $1 million. Nearly all books priced at $25 or more were available for rent. The program will be expanding in the spring semester to include many books priced below $25 as a result of a $1.1 million grant the bookstore has received from the U.S. Department of Education.
4. The Annual Costas Lyrintzis Award: The SDSU Bookstore along with Library and Information Access are proud to announce that the annual SDSU Bookstore Costas Lyrintzis $1,000 award, used to purchase books primarily for undergraduate students (and graduate students in Education), has been awarded. .
