In the Fall semester with the increased lab activity, it has proved to be
difficult to make software additions and/or changes to computer labs during
the semester. As this semester comes to an end, we need to begin planning
for the software needed to support the courses that will be taught in the
Spring 2010 semester, so that we can make any additions or changes before
the start of the Spring semester. We provide support for the Civil,
Construction, & Environmental Engineering Lab in PS231, the Electrical &
Computer Engineering Labs in E207, E218, & E220, the Aerospace & Mechanical
Engineering Computer Lab in E301, and the college instructional computer lab
in E221. We will have to build a master image for each of these labs with
all of the software that is required, and this will need to be completed by
January 12, 2010. We will use the week beginning January 13, 2010 to
transfer the image to every system in each of the computer labs and test
their operation. In order to accomplish this, we need to know the software
that needs to be installed before the end of December, so we can begin to
create our master images upon our return from the Christmas break January 5,
2010. We can install the software, and make some basic tests of it’s
functionality, but we are not sufficiently knowledgeable in all the various
software packages to be sure that the software will meet your course needs.
Once we have installed your software, we will need to have you or someone
whom you designate test the software installation to be sure that it is
functioning correctly for your needs before January 12, 2010.
If you have any software that needs to be updated or have new software you
would like installed for your courses for Spring 2010, please go the
http://engineering.sdsu.edu <http://engineering.sdsu.edu/> under
Information / Computer Help and complete the Classroom Software Request Form
before December 31, 2009. The form requests the following information:
● Your contact information
● Course that uses the software
● Software you want installed ( including version number)
● Licensing Information, and
● Where we can get the installation media
If we need additional information about the software installation or update
and/or once we have installed the software on the master machine, you will
be contacted by the Computer Consultant supporting your lab to test the
installation as follows:

Thank you for your support in our efforts to get the computer labs course
ready for the Spring 2010 semester before the start of the semester. If you
have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to
contact me or your lab’s Computer Consultant.
