Subject: Academic Affairs Furlough Calendar

 

Colleagues:

Attached is the final version of the Academic Affairs furlough calendar
(August through February) with mandatory (purple) and recommended (pink)
furlough days.  In the interest of maximum efficiency, the Provost's Office,
Academic Affairs, and Faculty Affairs will be closed on these days.  Other
offices in the division have also decided to close on these days.  You and
your staff may choose to close on these days as well.  

No represented employee should be coerced into observing the pink furlough
days.  If they wish to choose other days, you must accommodate them unless
there is a compelling operational need to shut the office on a specific day.
You may discuss specific situations with me or with Jessica Rentto, Director
of the Office of Employee Relations and Compliance.  

Please share with your department chairs and school directors.  This
calendar does not apply to academic year faculty, but 12-month chairs and
directors may decide to select the same days as their staff and close the
department/school office.  

ITS will have staff working on pink days so faculty will be covered in case
of problems.  The Library will remain open, although some services may need
to be reviewed.

We do not yet have an agreement with the Chancellor's Office on our calendar
from March through June; when we do, I will update you.
