OBJECTIVES:  Examples of the programs of study which apply to
the<br>
diverse field of naval engineering are: naval architecture, marine,<br>
ocean, mechanical, structural, civil, environmental, aeronautical,<br>
electrical, electronic and nuclear engineering, and the physical<br>
sciences, as well as other programs leading to careers with both<br>
military and civilian organizations requiring these educational<br>
backgrounds.  Naval engineering includes all arts and sciences
as<br>
applied in the research, development, design, construction,
operation,<br>
maintenance and logistic support of surface and subsurface ships and<br>
marine craft, naval maritime auxiliaries, ship related aviation and<br>
space systems, combat systems, command control, electronics and<br>
ordnance systems, ocean structures and fixed and mobile shore<br>
facilities which are used by the naval and other military forces and<br>
civilian maritime organizations for the defense and well-being of
the<br>
Nation. <br><br>
ELIGIBILITY<br>
 Applicants must be  U.S. citizens. Scholarships are limited
to<br>
support during the last academic year of undergraduate education or<br>
during one year of graduate education leading to a master’s degree
in<br>
an accredited college or university. Scholarships will not be
awarded<br>
to doctoralcandidates or to applicants already holding advanced<br>
degrees. Undergraduate candidates must be full-time students or<br>
currently participating in a co-op program. Graduate students must
be<br>
full-time students. Graduate applicants must also be ASNE members.

FUNDING<br>
 The scholarship award amounts are $3,000 for undergraduate
students<br>
and $4,000 for graduate students. (msw) <br><br>
