OBJECTIVES:  This scholarship is offered in line with the<br>
sponsor's mission to facilitate the advancement of technology to<br>
enhance quality, knowledge, competitiveness, sustainability, and<br>
environmental stewardship; Encourage and provide the tools for<br>
lifelong learning to aid our members' continued growth throughout<br>
their careers; Promote professionalism and the profession throughout<br>
society to enhance the stature of civil engineers and to influence<br>
public policy; Develop and support civil engineer leaders to broaden<br>
our members' perspectives, enhance their career growth, and promote<br>
the public interest; and Advocate infrastructure and environmental<br>
stewardship to protect the public health and safety and improve the<br>
quality of life.  <br><br>
ELIGIBILITY<br>
 Eligible are any currently enrolled freshman, sophomore, junior,
or<br>
senior who will be registered as an undergraduate in an ABET<br>
accredited program in civil engineering or related field in fall
2011.<br>
Applicants must be a member of his/her local ASCE Student Chapter
and<br>
a student member of the Society in good standing at the time of<br>
application and award.  No more than one application may be
submitted<br>
from the membership of any one Student Chapter. The scholarships may<br>
be awarded only to those students who will employ them to continue<br>
their formal undergraduate education  ) Previous recipients of
these<br>
scholarships are eligible to apply in any succeeding competition for<br>
these awards provided the other requirements of eligibility are<br>
satisfied. Selection is based on the applicant’s justification of<br>
award, educational plan, academic performance and standing,
potential<br>
for development, leadership capacity, ASCE activities, and financial<br>
need. <br><br>
FUNDING<br>
 A total of 12 recipients may be selected for award.  Past
awards<br>
have been approximately $3,000 each.  Scholarship funds are to be
used<br>
for tuition at a recognized educational institution and will be<br>
disbursed in the fall 2011 term. (flb) <br><br>
