The Computational Science Research Center at SDSU was recently awarded a
grant by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to provide scholarships
to undergraduate students in science and engineering to engage them
in computational research projects. This NSF-SDSU STEM (Science
Technology Engineering and Mathematics) Scholars Program will provide
yearly scholarships up to $5000 for juniors entering the program and
$6000 for seniors who continue participating in the program during the
second year. The goal of this scholarship is to assist academically
talented, financially needy students to explore opportunities for
computational modeling and simulation research in science and engineering
disciplines. This year we plan to award 30 scholarships to science
and engineering students who are in the junior or senior years and are
interested in future graduate studies.<br><br>
Participation in this scholarship program will provide students the
opportunity to join a research lab and get trained to use and develop
computational tools in their respective disciplines. Participants get to
contribute to ongoing research projects, while acquiring essential skills
that can make them high qualified attractive candidates for future
research careers in academia, national labs and industry. Students
participating in the NSF-SDSU STEM Scholars Program also will get career
development counselling, assistance in developing a portfolio to apply to
graduate programs, help in locating and applying for national
scholarships and internships in government labs.<br><br>
To qualify, students must be U. S. citizens or permanent residents, must
meet the criterion of financial need as determined by the U.S. Department
of Education, must be juniors or seniors in science or engineering
disciplines, have a GPA of 3.0 or better. <br><br>

<ul>
<li> Statement of Purpose stating why you want to participate in the
S-STEM program, and how participation in the program will assist you in
reaching your career goals.
<li> Completed application for the STEM Scholarships Program.
<li> Transcripts (unofficial copies) from all post secondary
education.
<li> Three Letters of Recommendations, at least one of which is from
a former professor in the selected field of study (using form provided).
