OBJECTIVES:  Areas of research include: Studies of cometary and<br>
planetary atmospheres using computer modeling; Analysis of
spacecraft<br>
and sounding rocket data; Theoretical and experimental studies of
the<br>
dynamics and chemistry of the Earth's atmosphere; Analysis of data<br>
from instruments deployed at remote stations; Design and fabrication<br>
of spacecraft hardware; Laboratory calibrations, optics and tests.<br>
Equipment to be used include: high-speed super-computers;
interactive<br>
color graphic systems for data analysis; laboratory equipment; and<br>
computer network. <br><br>
ELIGIBILITY<br>
 All undergraduate students enrolled in accredited schools are<br>
eligible to apply, though preference will be given to those entering<br>
their junior and senior year and specializing in scientific or<br>
engineering areas. Minority, female and physically disabled students<br>
are encouraged to apply as are students from institutions where<br>
research opportunities are limited. A majority of the positions will<br>
be available for students attending undergraduate schools (including<br>
small liberal arts colleges, community colleges, etc.) where
research<br>
opportunities are limited. Student participants must be citizens or<br>
permanent residents of the United States. <br><br>
FUNDING<br>
 As a research assistant students will receive financial
support<br>
during their stay at SPRL and will be given a position as<br>
Undergraduate Research Assistant. This support will be provided at a<br>
typical monthly level of approximately $1,800. Most participants
will<br>
work during the summer period (three months at 100% effort). (cmb)
