OBJECTIVES: The sponsor provides general education and training
in communication, management, and leadership to assist Self Fellows in
preparation for future leadership roles, complementing the specialized
education and training provided in the Ph.D. programs. Fellows
interact with nationally prominent experts to gain broad knowledge of
public policy issues.
ELIGIBILITY
In order to be eligible for nomination, you must meet a number of
criteria. These include: Have completed your baccalaureate degree
within the past eight years; Be a U.S. citizen, and; Be a new Ph.D.
student or first-year Ph.D student (at the time of nomination) without
a research-based master's degree in the Ph.D. discipline
FUNDING
New Self Fellows for 2011-2012 will receive annual support of
$29,000 for four years. Payment is through appointment as a graduate
research assistant, or occasionally as a graduate teaching assistant.
The fellowship covers tuition, fees, and the employer's share of
student health insurance costs. All fellows must actively participate
in the Fellow Development Program. The total value of the four-year
doctoral fellowship exceeds $164,000. (msw)
