Global warming is driven by the emission of greenhouse gases, mostly CO2 and methane. While methane is produced in essentially every ecosystem, from the deep ocean to the human gut, the scale of the global methane cycle, in context of the global carbon cycle, is sometimes difficult to fully appreciate. This is partly due to the complexity and the variety of its sources and sinks. My team research merges classical enzymology and genetics with systems-biology approaches to both improve the understanding of methane utilization and facilitate metabolic engineering. Our results bridge the potential of biological systems with technology development to address affordable, small-scale methane mitigation. <span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif";color:black">

<span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif";color:black"> <span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif";color:black">

<span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif";color:black">HOST: <span style="font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"">Jose Castillo<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif";color:black">

<span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif";color:black"> <span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif";color:black">

<span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif";color:black">Dr. Jose E.
