College of Engineering Faculty,
The Engineering Joint Doctoral Program (JDP) will open applications for
admission in fall 2024 from October 1 to December 1, 2023. If you are
planning on recruiting a doctoral student for this cycle, you are highly
encouraged to begin the process now so that applicants may start the
process at the beginning of October and complete it in a timely manner.
Applicants will need to submit a CSU graduate application and an Interfolio
supplemental application within the October 1 - December 1 window. Late
applications will not be accepted. Applicants will have until December 15
to submit documents and correct any issues in both the CSU and Interfolio
applications. No documents may be accepted after that date and incomplete
applications will be withdrawn. Please note that the GRE is only required
for Structural Engineering applicants. It is not required but recommended
for all other applicants.
You will need to confirm your acceptance of an applicant, your UCSD
co-adviser, and funding source (at least 3 years of start-up or grant
funding) via email with me by December 15. Please note that the UCSD
co-adviser must have a regular T/TT appointment in the department your
applicant wishes to earn a doctoral degree (Bioengineering, Electrical and
Computer, Mechanical and Aerospace, or Structural).
Complete applications will be evaluated by the SDSU JDP Admissions
Committee. If recommended for admission, the applicant will be forwarded to
UCSD for evaluation by mid-January. At that time, the applicant will be
instructed to complete a UCSD graduate application. Each participating
department at UCSD will then evaluate and pass on recommended applicants to
the UCSD JDP Admissions Committee for review. If recommended for admission,
the deans of the SDSU College of Graduate Studies (CGS) and UCSD Division
of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs (GEPA) will conduct their
own reviews to finalize the admission process which should be completed by
March.
For more information and to review the detailed application process, please
