Subject: Spring 2023 GSHIP Opt-Out Window Now Open
To: <tgaroma at sdsu.edu>

Dear Colleagues,

As a follow-up to our Oct. 24 email
<http://click.comms.sdsu.edu/?qs=12aed22b0c70a7a8abae264c50cf811e8fb102a9e840aae8f86f4e59f230b258e8eb0c993d0f25adc61a2f59a49adedc7c0a1f0f759fc21f>,
we are sending a reminder message that starting today, Nov. 1, students may
opt-out of the Graduate Student Health Insurance (GSHIP) program for the
spring term if they otherwise have health coverage. This opt-out window
will be open for three months, closing on *Jan. 31, 2023*.

In your important student-facing roles, we are writing to ensure you have
ample information about the program as well as resources to share with any
students who express a request for support.

The full message we are sending to students about GSHIP is included below.

*The Graduate Student Health Insurance Program (GSHIP) Details:*

GSHIP is an opt-out program that offers health insurance coverage through
Anthem Student Advantage, SDSU’s negotiated student plan, for domestic
(non-international) graduate students. Students who choose not to
participate in the program for Spring 2023 (because they have coverage from
another source) *must* opt-out any time before *Jan. 31, 2023*.

   - Opting out is quick and easy: students just need to complete a waiver
showing proof of alternate healthcare coverage in the JCB insurance portal.
Students can opt-out starting *today, Nov. 1* in the insurance portal,
which will then be open for the next three months to allow students maximum
time to take action. They must opt-out no later than *Jan. 31, 2023*.

   - If a student chooses not to opt-out in the JCB insurance portal
   <http://click.comms.sdsu.edu/?qs=5134e6ae27cefc19189b22653545596a2fb045588a002e6404dca80cebe4f2f1d45c5310a15d44ed396790d7b0601ed73f4090e3e9e036d6>,
they will be enrolled in the Anthem Student Advantage plan, which will
provide them with medical, dental, and vision insurance for the Spring. A
“pass-through” charge to the health insurance provider will appear
in their my.SDSU
   Financial Account Tile
   <http://click.comms.sdsu.edu/?qs=5134e6ae27cefc19b925d54fb6e0682bce4e4d27c3744fd30774dc04f3abd1e8f808d063a735da2d42bc120ca7f6ab8667df795fc52e31ac>
on Jan. 5, 2023. This charge will be for $1635, which is the cost of the
insurance premium for the full spring 2023 term (Jan. 16 - Aug. 14).

   - Though the charge for the cost of the Anthem Student Advantage
insurance premium will appear on their my.SDSU Financial Account Tile on
Jan. 5, 2023, it will be removed after the student has completed the
opt-out process and the student receives confirmation that they have
   successfully opted out.

connect them to financial assistance and resources that may be helpful.
Students, including graduate students, do not need to qualify for financial
aid to request assistance from ECRT.

graduate students, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate on
improving the overall experience of our students.
