Presentation by Acting Program Lead, Hispanic Serving Institutions National
Program, USDA w/Q&A geared toward SDSU Community



USDA E. Kika De La Garza Fellowship Program offers faculty, staff, and
administrators from Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) the unique
opportunity to gain insight into USDA programs, services, and resources
along with other Federal Agencies.



USDA-HSI Fellowship Program (USDA E. Kika De La Garza Fellowship Program)…
provides travel, housing, and per diem stipend!!!



Education Fellowship Track: To learn about the varied and wide-ranging USDA
programs, services, and resources with linkages and collaborative
partnership opportunities in research, education/teaching, and extension.
Mutual Areas of Interest for education fellows, such as student outreach,
recruitment, and retention; career pathways for students and recent grads
(internships, scholarships, volunteering, service-learning, employment
prospects); competitive grants and funding sources; partnerships and
collaborations; multidisciplinary connections; community engagement.



Science Fellowship Track: To partner and collaborate with leading
scientists and nationwide network of researchers at a USDA-Agricultural
Research Service (ARS) Research Location or with the USDA-Natural Resources
Conservation Service (NRCS) Soil Science Division. The science fellows will
expand their expertise and research topic/interests in the food,
agriculture, natural resources, human sciences, and related disciplines.



These summer professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, and
administrators from Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) brings together
nationwide representatives with meaningful learning experiences to increase
and expand its overall understanding of USDA and obtain a greater
understanding of the federal government, to identify collaborative
partnership opportunities and mutual areas of interest for the
professional, scientific/research, and technical workforce at USDA on food,
agriculture, natural resources, rural development, nutrition, and related
issues.

Department.”  USDA is continuing its legacy, providing access and
facilitating participation to educational, professional, and
capacity-building opportunities.
