Subject: FOA Announcement: DOE Announces $8M for University Training and
Research for Decarbonization and Net-Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Technologies
To:
The University Training and Research (UTR) program within the Crosscutting
Research portfolio supports novel, early-stage research at U.S. colleges
and universities that advances the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon
Management (FECM) mission of delivering integrated solutions related to
minimizing the environmental impacts of fossil fuels while working towards
net-zero emissions. It comprises two long-running university training
programs that prepare the next generation of scientists and engineers to
meet future energy challenges: the Historically Black Colleges and
Universities and Other Minority Institutions (HBCU–OMI) and the University
Coal Research (UCR) programs.
FECM recently announced funding for UTR totaling $8 million to advance
natural gas research coupled to methane mitigation and build new
humanities-driven science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
(HDSTEM) curricula at eligible U.S. colleges and universities.
