Latest Updates and Announcements
As you know, the university adopted several strategies and interventions
this fall to help keep our campus community healthy and safe, and that
includes our campus visitors.

As you are inviting guests to serve as lecturers and speakers, whether it
be within your department, college, student club and organization or other
unit, make sure they fill out SDSU's Invited Guest/Visitor Requirements form
<http://click.comms.sdsu.edu/?qs=10f17127dc9492c474b4fcc1bf254cd157a58d34858f8cc062a56fb5e0a75a2e19188f1986726233acb6c98dcb9403178a66768e4cc53062>
.

Invited guests and visitors on university business (including guest
speakers, performers, academic review teams and job candidates) are
required to complete the form to indicate their compliance with university
policies and the California State University system’s vaccination
requirement.

Again, we thank you for maintaining your day to day practices
<http://click.comms.sdsu.edu/?qs=10f17127dc9492c491905ef72d4b5ed00f6e6687de853558c31cb17c3da16318bc83cc1ef41e6040811f687fff8296107d61b2613cc3ed1e>,
which are helping to keep COVID-19 cases low and our community well. We are
making great progress with our fall plan and, with your help, will continue
serving as a strong model for other higher education institutions.

*And new development:* The U.S. Food and Drug Administration voted
yesterday in favor of authorizing Moderna’s COVID-19 booster shots. Upon
formal approval, the boosters would be available to those aged 65 and
older, who are aged 18 to 64 and risk severe COVID-19 symptoms, and also
those in jobs that place them at a higher risk for serious illness.

More information is anticipated next week. Details about COVID-19 booster
shots

are available on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
site, and all who are or become eligible are encouraged to receive the
booster.

Planned OnBase Outage
On Sunday, Oct. 17, COVID-19 clearance status in SDSU’s WebPortal will not
be updated as part of a brief, scheduled maintenance. This means that any
student viewing their WebPortal may see an inaccurate clearance status in
the upper right hand corner and faculty who check their course roster may
not see updated clearance statuses for their students during this brief
window.

However, Health*e*Connect medallions will continue to be updated and
accurate. Students will continue to be able to show their Health*e*Connect
green COVID-19 approved clearance medallion to access the University
Library and other facilities and campus events where clearance is required.

Should a faculty member need to verify campus clearance during this Sunday
downtime, they should ask the student to display their Health*e*Connect
medallion.

The system will be fully restored before Monday, Oct. 18.

Should you have any questions related to this scheduled maintenance, please
email covidclearance at sdsu.edu <covidclearance at sdsu.edu?subject=>.

is available on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and prevention’s
dedicated site.

You should get the flu vaccine to protect against the flu, and the COVID-19
vaccine to help protect against the virus that causes COVID-19
*“Getting a flu shot is especially important given that COVID-19 is still
negatively impacting our communities. Influenza and COVID-19 can both be
significant respiratory illnesses and we have safe and effective vaccines
for both. You can even get a flu and COVID shot at the same time.”*
*-Dr. Cameron Kaiser, county deputy public health officer*
*For students, faculty and staff:* The influenza vaccine is now available
at doctors’ offices and retail pharmacies and is covered by medical
insurance. Those without health care coverage can get vaccinated at one of
the county’s six public health centers or a local community clinic.
