Dear Colleagues:

SDSU is exploring ways for SDSU faculty to partner with Georgian faculty
members to direct graduate students in Georgia. Under this effort, SDSU
faculty members can serve as a co-mentor, co-advisor, and co-committee
chair of the Ph.D. committee for students matriculated in Georgia. At the
moment, the collaboration will be done remotely, and once COVID-19
restrictions are removed, students matriculated in Georgia could conduct
part of their research here at SDSU.

Georgian Universities have a European style Ph.D. program, i.e., research
based, few/no courses or other requirements, with durations of 3-3.5 years
long. Many Georgian students have strong math, programming, and modeling
skills and abilities, but may not have access to state-of-the-art research
equipment or laboratories in Georgia. The primary advantage to SDSU faculty
is access to highly qualified and motivated students that can focus 100% on
research.

In two weeks, I am scheduled to make a presentation to Georginan students
and faculty about the research interests in the SDSU College of Engineering
and the joint doctoral program in Engineering sciences between SDSU and
UCSD. If you are interested in this opportunity, please let me know by *Friday,
January 22, 2021*. A brief description of the areas of research that you
would like to collaborate with Georgian faculty would be very helpful.

Professor Walt Oechel, cced, is leading this effort. If you have any
specific questions about it, please directly contact him.

Thank you,
Temesgen Garoma
