Dear Liaisons,
Can you please help in getting the following message out to the leadership
(chairs, directors, managers, etc.) in your college or division? Thank you,
and happy Friday!!!
Thanks to all who have supported our APIDA Pledge. If you haven’t
officially signed the Pledge, please do so here: #SDSUAPIDAPledge
<https://sacd.sdsu.edu/diversity-initiatives/apida-pledge>. In addition,
please encourage your staff, friends, and family members to sign as well.
It is our goal to create a safe and welcoming campus climate for all of our
APIDA students, staff, and faculty.
In addition to signing the Pledge, there are other ways you can help the
SDSU APIDA Center in efforts to fight against anti-Asian hate:
-
Encourage departments/units to amplify our upcoming events which include
an APIDA Conference
<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DUoSPC2kw_zt7A9vnnjVp3qxTI60iKxE/view?usp=sharing>,
APIDA in the Arts Festiva
<https://drive.google.com/file/d/12_LDYFJhFwa17eT-lixxrdZPdiXGT7EI/view?usp=sharing>l,
AFE 101: “How to be an Anti-Racist Teacher” Conference
<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CcutCn9Myn3_Wzo7XOAl6qP5OuQo3TAT/view?usp=sharing>,
APIDA Hometown Heroes
<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wFj00k1YP1zWV5t6MWCnThr_qxfcwoVN/view?usp=sharing>,
"Let's Talk
<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Eq45U1PtBzKp1M1HMp8l-oUxoBmZOLG0/view?usp=sharing>"
processing spaces, and "Let's Be Better Together
<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YE8angTcf8yKk1oVGTMniFjWFJvAZ-7Z/view?usp=sharing>"
trainings. Flyers, etc. can be found on our social media
<https://www.instagram.com/sdsuapidacenter>and in our Spring 2021
Solidarity Programs google drive
<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/138AQuDVf7mc2dhdrmqKeb-ZkDdfwY7QX?usp=sharing>
. (Stay tuned for May APIDA History Month programming)
-
Encourage colleges/divisions/units/departments to write solidarity
statements to support APIDA communities. The SDSU APIDA Center is
willing to help by reviewing these solidarity statements. We would also
like to collect these statements in order to amplify them on our website
and social media. Please send directly to vloh-hagan at sdsu.edu
<vlog-hagan at sdsu.edu>.
-
Encourage colleges/divisions/units/departments to include the Pledge and
address issues of anti-Asian hate in their meeting agendas. The SDSU APIDA
Center is also willing to attend meetings to talk about ways to support
APIDA folks, to collaborate on programs that serve APIDA folks, etc. Please
reach out directly to vloh-hagan at sdsu.edu <vlog-hagan at sdsu.edu>.
Thanks for all your support. Together, we can be better.
P.S. Several APIDA faculty wrote an opinion piece that was published in the San
Diego Union-Tribune
<https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/opinion/commentary/story/2021-03-25/opinion-asian-american-women-victims-harassment-violence-death?fbclid=IwAR0BOmCoVcoOyY2cgWMwrSJFD2rrfMYDaItVOtVJ94JwfVI5AqoimtjLFww>.
The authors include Dr. Virginia Loh-Hagan (APIDA Center), Dr. Congcong
Zheng (COB - Management), Dr. Nellie Tran (COE - Counseling and School
Psychology), Dr. Yawen Li (CHHS - Social Work), and Dr. Hongmei Shen (PSFA
- Journalism and Media Studies). In addition, the "Daily Aztec"
<https://thedailyaztec.com/104954/news/atlanta-shootings-are-breaking-point-for-asian-american-women-at-san-diego-state/?fbclid=IwAR3eBsNJhe9LLjqR0kvNAB7P0ayLhfaP6-TABq_ILmOCG-TUArbFhNws4gM>
also
wrote an article about the shootings.
