Dear Associate/Assistant Deans, and Department Chairs,

Please share this message with faculty members interested in adding
international perspectives to their courses through Collaborative Online
International Learning (COIL).

COIL is a pedagogical approach to virtual global learning in which faculty
members at institutions in different countries work together to co-develop
a shared component for their respective classes. COIL leverages technology
to expand global education to placebound students by integrating
project-based learning across cultures in existing classes.

The following initiatives are underway to encourage SDSU faculty members to
develop COIL modules for their courses.

*Introduction to COIL Video* - Please view this brief (~11 minute) video
introducing COIL <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDJ5t4R5Wzk> for
an overview. Additional information is available on the International
Affairs webpage for COIL
<https://www.sdsu.edu/internationalaffairs/faculty-resources#collapsed19e230_1>
.

*COILers Community of Practice* - The COIL community of practice (a Google
group) is where "COILers" can share ideas, roadblocks, successful
techniques etc. The video (linked above) provides step-by-step instructions
on how to be added to that group. However, SDSU faculty members interested
in being directly added to the *COILer's *group may contact Adrienne Fusek
at afusek at sdsu.edu.

*Foundations Workshops* - The SUNY COIL Center is the industry leader in
COIL and SDSU International Affairs and SDSU Global Campus have designated
COIL coordinators who meet with the SUNY COIL network regularly. The SUNY
COIL Center will be conducting workshops on developing COIL with the next
workshop scheduled for January 2021. Additional information about these
workshops will be be sent to those who join the COILers group.

*Course Internationalization Grants* - International Affairs has a small
amount of funding to support faculty members to internationalize their
courses. Awards are not expected to exceed *$500*. The application will be
shared on the International Affairs COIL website and with the COILers group.

Kindly,

Cristina
