Dear CoE Faculty and Staff,

I am sharing the email that I sent to all engineering students and posted
on our homeroom in Blackboard. I understand many of us have been asked by
students to 'waive' pre-reqs or otherwise help them to prevent them from
being dropped from summer/fall classes for which pre-reqs are required.
The email below was sent in an attempt to inform our students how pre-reqs
impact enrollment and to be patient. We all need to have the same
information so that our answers to these requests are the same and
accurate. The email below was developed with the help of some of our
department chairs and deans.

Be well and stay safe,

for engineering students, logging into the College of Engineering Homeroom
in Blackboard.*

Subject: COLLEGE-OF-ENGINEERING-HR (Homeroom): Summer & Fall 'Contingent'
Enrollment
To:

Dear SDSU Engineering Students,

We know this has been a very challenging semester. One that we can put
behind us. However, we are still living in the Pandemic and are making
plans for all of you that will keep your health and safety a priority AND
advance your education.

We are writing to you today to explain prerequisite requirements and the
effects of not meeting these pre-reqs on your summer and/or fall class
schedules. If you are not ‘contingently’ enrolled in any upcoming classes,
then you can ignore this email. IF YOU ARE ‘contingently’ enrolled then
please read through this email very carefully. This email will also be
saved in the announcement section of the College of Engineering Homeroom on
Blackboard.

You may have recently received an email from the registrar’s office
informing you that you are enrolled in one or more contingent classes,
please understand the following which applies to all engineering majors and
pre-engineering majors that are contingently enrolled:

   -

If you are enrolled in a summer or fall course that requires a
prerequisite class or that requires major status and do not meet the
pre-req by May 22, when spring grades are finalized, you will be dropped
from those courses. Please understand the following:
   -

this will then allow all students who have met the prerequisite to
      remain enrolled or to enroll
      -

students who plan to take a pre-req course in the summer will be
allowed to re-register once proof of grade is obtained and
provided to the
department. For engineering courses this must be done in the department
from which the course is offered. For example, if it’s an ME class then
contact the ME Dept. If it is a math or science course, then see the
Student Success Center in the College of Sciences.
      -

Remember, if you are taking a course outside of SDSU this summer,
you will still need to officially transfer the grade.
         -

No waivers will be provided to keep students from being dropped after
   May 22nd.
   -

All Engineering Department Chairs are closely monitoring the enrollment
for their classes to ensure that all students who meet prerequisites will
have a seat in the courses they need to progress toward graduation.

Due to strict pre-requisite requirements, we must hold all students equally
accountable for meeting these pre-reqs. and allow students who have met
them to enroll. I do hope this helps ease your concern and that you are
patient while this process works. We will do everything in our power to
ensure that all students can enroll in the course(s) for which pre-reqs are
met in order to progress toward graduation.

Sincerely,

The College of Engineering Deans and Department Chairs
