Hi Satish (and Faculty) ,
I have conducted online courses last couple of years and gave online
exams and quizzes. Using proctoring tools students we can limit students
access to internet and any other file on their computer and record the
students on video while taking the exam. Blackboard supports respondus
lockdown and recorder we can students access to the browser (only your
exam will be possible to open) and monitor student on video. The video
recorder also does eye tracking etc. Although it is not perfect, we may
be able to utilize this vehicle.
If you give your exams online ( either at student’s home or library or at a
test center) your graders can also access it and grade it on blackboard.
There are plenty of different type of questions.
Instructional Technology Services will run several *Virtual Instruction
Primer (VIP): Tools & Techniques Workshops this week and next Faculty may
register to the workshops using Eventbrite at the following link. *
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/virtual-instruction-primer-vip-tools-techniques-tickets-98713118595
I also have guides for students to use respondus browser and guide to
taking online quizzes. I will be happy to share. ITS has staff that can
help put together an exam online.
Hope it helps. Let me know any questions
Best regards
Yusuf

All or who can answer,
How we ask our graders and ourselves to grade hardcopy of the
assignments/quizzes/Mid-Term Exams when assignments/quizzes/mid-term/final
exam which can become a medium of transmission? More importantly, how to
conduct quizzes, mid-term and final examinations if online/virtual way of
teaching? Is there a guideline about it so can be communicated to our
students in such an event or especially after Spring break as President's
email instructs? Everything cannot be done online or virtual or it may not
be practical for all our courses.
Thank you

Engineering Faculty,
I have an exam today and several students contacted me during the last hour
or so declaring sick and requesting to take the exam at a later time.
University send an email to all students to be conscientious when they are
sick and discourage to come to work. Similarly we are asking students and
staff in our labs to work from home when they are sick.
If students contact you to ask for accommodation and an exam or homework
please follow university policies. Please use your best judgement to
decide during these unusual times and when in doubt consult university
procedures. The paragraph below summarizes the procedure for a student to
declare sick and request academic accommodations.
Students may provide medical documentation for temporary disability
accommodations by contacting the Student Ability Success Center
<https://newscenter.sdsu.edu/student_affairs/sds/> by emailing
sascinfo at sdsu.edu. After an expedited review of the student’s medical
documentation SASC will provide an accommodation letter for students to
share with their instructors in order to work out the best accommodations
for their courses. Students will not be penalized in any way if they
request academic accommodations.
If you have any questions and concerns please do not hesitate to contact me
or Theresa Garcia.
Best regards
Yusuf
