To our College of Engineering family,
In the midst of the myriad unfortunate events plaguing our lives right now,
this email is simply to reach out to you to extend our empathy and our
solidarity. Hope you are all doing as well as you can amidst the turmoil!
If you experience or witness acts of bias or racism, OR acts that
contribute in POSITIVE ways to our community, you can report those using
the Inclusive SDSU system <https://diversity.sdsu.edu/initiatives/inclusive>
<https://diversity.sdsu.edu/initiatives/inclusive>.
Chief Diversity Officer at SDSU - Dr. Luke Wood - shared his views in an
article published in the Union Tribune recently
<https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/opinion/story/2020-06-06/10-black-san-diegans-write-about-their-lives-racial-justice-and-police-brutality>.
Many faculty have pledged
<https://diversity.sdsu.edu/initiatives/pledge-submission> their support to
the Black Community on campus. If this is of interest to you, please feel
free to explore the opportunity. As you may already know from Dr. Nola
Butler's email, the Senate has recently passed a historic resolution to
improve training of future law enforcement officers. Last but not the
least, there is a movement on social media to reserve June 10th
<https://www.shutdownstem.com/> as a day for members in academia to show
solidarity towards the African American community. Academics may use the
day to reflect, discuss, and take action to support our Black colleagues.
If you need ideas for actions you can take, please check out the resources
made available
<https://diversity.sdsu.edu/resources/resources_response_racial_violence>
to you by the University's DDI Council.
May all these positive efforts contribute to the healing and the
restoration of humanitarianism. Wishing you peace and positivity.
Sincerely and warmly,
The College of Engineering DEI Team
