Week 7 of the Engineering 120 project is complete, and Week 8 is underway.
Last week (Week 7), we completed additional electrical rough-in and wall
insulation, and continued hanging drywall.
This week (Week 8), we intend to complete drywall hanging and start drywall
finish work, complete wall plaster, and complete piping and duct
insulation.
*Looking ahead to next week (Week 9): we intend to temporarily shut down
power to Building Panel "PC" on Friday, November 8 during early morning
work (4:00 am to 8:00 am).*
*This localized shutdown will affect Panels "PC" and "PG," and is needed to
safely redistribute power to the new lab spaces.*
*There will temporarily be no power supply to Rooms 103, 119, and 120
between 4:00 am and 8:00 am on Friday, November 8.*
*If you believe your research or instruction will be affected by this early
morning power shutdown, please contact Kara Peterson at (619) 459-7477. *
This project remains on track to complete in mid-December 2019.

Week 6 of the Engineering 120 project is complete, and Week 7 is underway.
Last week (Week 6), we completed mechanical rough-in and began electrical
rough-in and drywall hanging.
This week (Week 7), we intend to complete additional electrical rough-in;
wall insulation, and drywall.
As before, *intermittent noise will occur during drywall activities, so
drywall work is scheduled to take place during early morning hours (between
5:00 am and 8:00 am) on Wednesday (10/23/19), Thursday (10/24/19), and
Friday (10/25/19).*
This project remains on track to complete in mid-December 2019.

Week 5 of the Engineering 120 project is complete.
This week (Week 5), we completed framing and plumbing rough in and started
electrical rough in and installation of overhead mechanical components.
Next week (Week 6), we intend to continue mechanical and electrical rough
in and begin hanging drywall.
This project is currently projected to complete in mid-December 2019.

Week 4 of the Engineering 120 project is complete.
This week (Week 4), we completed domestic water lines tie-in and
replacement of the waste line (sawcutting, waste line replacement, rebar
doweling, and concrete patch back).
Next week (Week 5), we intend to complete framing and rough in of
mechanical, electrical, and plumbing; and start installation of overhead
mechanical components.
*We anticipate noise impacts from the framing work, so this work is
scheduled to take place during early morning hours (2:00 AM - 8:00 AM) on
Monday (10/07/19), Tuesday (10/08/19), Wednesday (10/09/19), Thursday
(10/10/19), and Friday (10/11/19).*

Subject: Engineering 120 Project - Concrete Pour This Friday (10/04/19)
To: <faculty at engineering.sdsu.edu>, <staff at engineering.sdsu.edu>, Kara
Peterson <kara.peterson at sdsu.edu>
The sawcutting for the new waste line is complete.
We currently have *concrete pour ("patch back" to fill in open trenches)
scheduled for this Friday (10/04/19) from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.*
Anticipated impacts for this activity are *intermittent noise and vibration*,
similar to trash collection. The concrete truck will be in front of the
northeast building canopy and entrance during the pour, but building access
will not be affected.

Peterson <kara.peterson at sdsu.edu>
Week 3 of the Engineering 120 project is complete.
This week (Week 3) we discovered a couple of *existing conditions that will
have schedule and logistics impacts:*
*1) Waste Line Replacement:*
The underground cast iron waste line (c. 1950s) is corroded and will now be
replaced.
We will be performing *additional sawcutting to create additional trenches
in the concrete slab during overnight work (10:00 pm to 6:00 am shift) on
Monday (09/30) and Tuesday (10/1) next week (Week 4). *
*Noise and vibration will occur during this overnight sawcutting work
(similar to Week 2 of the project).*
When sawcutting is complete, the existing cast iron waste line will be
removed and replaced with PVC pipe.
This work is currently expected to *add about one week to the project
schedule.*
*2) Fire Rating Corrections:*
The existing partition walls in the project space will need extensive
rework to extend to the building deck and provide the required fire rating.
This work will likely add time to the project schedule, and may have
associated noise impacts. These impacts will be communicated in a future
update as this scope develops.
This week (Week 3), we completed:
- planned demolition;
- underground electrical;
- relocation of an electrical panel.
Next week (Week 4), we plan to:
*- sawcut and demolish concrete during overnight work on Monday (09/30) and
Tuesday (10/1) in order to replace the cast iron waste line;*
*- shut down building water and air from 10:00 pm on Tuesday, 10/1 to 6:00
am on Wednesday, 10/2, as communicated in prior notices;*
- replace the cast iron waste line with PVC;
- coordinate inspection of the new waste line.
During the *end of next week (Week 4) or beginning of Week 5 (week of
10/7), we will patch back the concrete removed in order to replace the
waste line. *
*Delivery of the new concrete will likely present a couple of hours of
noise and vibration.* We will make every effort to coordinate and receive
delivery in early morning hours (before 8:00 am) to mitigate this impact.

Week 2 of the Engineering 120 project is complete:
Last week (Week 2), we completed demolition and concrete cutting and
removal.
This week (Week 3), we are back to daytime work.
We plan to install underground plumbing and electrical at the beginning of
the week, and patch back concrete in floor trenches at the end of the week.
We've learned that the Building does not currently have capability to
isolate/localize domestic water or air shutdowns:
Thus, looking ahead to *next week (Week 4): on Tuesday, October 1, we
intend to shutoff domestic water and compressed air to the entire
Engineering Building, so that we may tie in the new spaces to Building
utilities.*
The shut down will occur *during night work, between the hours of 10:00 pm
on Tuesday, October 1 and 6:00 am on Wednesday, October 2.*
*If your research or instruction will be affected by this overnight
shutdown, please contact Kara Peterson at (619) 459-7477.*

The Engineering 120 project (buildout of three new research labs in the
former E120 space) started on Wednesday.
This week, we completed moving and surplus, performed abatement and
demolition, and set up site fencing.
Next week, we intend to continue and complete demolition and begin and
complete concrete cutting.
*We anticipate noise and vibration impacts for the concrete work, so work
is scheduled to take place overnight **from 10:00 pm - 6:00 am **on Tuesday
(09/17), Wednesday (09/18), and Thursday (09/20).*
*During night work on Wednesday (09/18), we intend to shutoff water to the
120 space.*
*We anticipate this shutoff will be localized* to the 120 space only and
will not affect the building, however, we will know more on Monday (09/16).
*If a shutdown to building water is needed, it will occur during night work
on Wednesday, and another email notice with specific details will follow
this one on Monday, 09/16.*
