Hi CoE Faculty and Staff,

I am sharing this, even though you may have already received it directly.
There is a Mental Health Training for Faculty and Staff that you mind find
useful given the increasing numbers of students that present mental health
concerns. See the information and the dates, if you are interested.

Best regards,

CTL Faculty Associate Positions
The Center for Teaching and Learning is seeking faculty for potentially
multiple positions for the 2019-20 academic year. Contingent on final
funding approval, up to three Faculty Associates will receive three units
of release time (Fall and Spring) to collaborate with the Director of the
CTL to support student success by engaging SDSU faculty in a scholarly
approach to teaching and fostering a culture of inclusive excellence in
teaching and learning.

Responsibilities may include:

   - Develop, promote, and facilitate faculty development programming
around classroom pedagogy, assessment and curriculum design
   - Promote improved assessment and evaluation of teaching and learning
   innovations
   - Lead learning communities on targeted topics
   - Consult with individual faculty as necessary on a wide variety of
teaching and learning issues and challenges
   - Liaison with Instructional Technology Services, Faculty Advancement,
Student Affairs, Faculty Diversity and Inclusion, and other campus units to
support faculty and promote effective pedagogy
   - Help maintain and update the Center’s website, newsletter
   communications and annual plans

One Faculty Associate will focus specifically on curriculum and course
design, and will coordinate with college representatives tasked with
implementing the new curricular review process. It is expected that other
Faculty Associates will also have a specific area of focus; this might be
programming for specific populations such as new faculty, lecturers, STEM,
etc.; programming for specific types of courses such as general education,
large introductory courses, etc.; scholarship of teaching and learning;
high-impact practices; or other topics that interested faculty would like
to propose. Please indicate in your letter of interest if there is a
specific area or areas on which you would like to focus.

Interested faculty of any rank (tenure-track or lecturers) should first
obtain the support of your Chair or Director (confirming that taking a
course release in the fall will not pose an unreasonable burden), and then
send a letter of interest to the CTL Director, Jennifer Imazeki,
ctl at sdsu.edu, by Monday, May 20. Note that all appointments are contingent
on the final outcome of the budget approval process (which is currently
still in progress). Feel free to email Jennifer with any questions.

which will focus on Creating Inclusive Classrooms. Through a combination of
readings, self-reflection, in-person and online group discussion, and
hands-on activities, Academy participants will explore their own identities
and beliefs, learn strategies to better support students from all
backgrounds, and discuss best practices for implementing changes in course
design and teaching activities that will lead to more welcoming and
inclusive classrooms. Participants will integrate changes into their Fall
2019 course(s), and reflect on and share their experiences with colleagues.

The Academy will follow a five-week hybrid format: after a one-day
in-person kick-off meeting the week of May 20, participants will complete
assignments online and meet via Zoom (1.5 hours each) once a week for three
weeks, before reconvening in person during the last week (1.5 hours); there
will also be a follow-up meeting in August (1.5 hours).

Military Ally Training Summer Dates San Diego State University’s Joan and
Art Barron Veterans Center will host four Military Ally Awareness Program
<https://sdsu.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=7b79778272a64c0abaed9da35&id=d9f4d7af40&e=d14e94e654>
seminars during summer 2019. All students, faculty, staff, and off-campus
community members are invited to attend regardless of their military
affiliation to learn more about and explore the unique cultural and social
structures of the military community. The seminar is not solely for those
with little or no military affiliation. Instead, we highly encourage those
who have served, are still serving in some capacity, or are military family
members to attend as these voices and experiences lend to enhancing the
scope of the conversations.

The goal of the Military Ally program is to continue to build upon the
outstanding campus atmosphere of SDSU and the San Diego area as a whole by
fostering a greater sense of inclusion for all members of our community.
Those who attend the seminar and become an Ally to our veterans, service
members, military families, and supporters, will gain insight into and
become aware of the diverse nature of the military culture while gleaning
ways to connect with and support this population through understanding and
communication. Participants walk away with a better understanding of the
challenges the military population may encounter as well as the benefits of
enriching our inclusive community.

Military Ally seminars are scheduled for the following dates and attendance
at one is the only requirement join the network:

Friday, May 31
Friday, June 21
Friday, July 26
Friday, August 23

Each session starts at 8:30 a.m., concludes at approximately 12:30 p.m.,
and refreshments will be provided.

If you wish to attend one of the upcoming Military Ally sessions, please
RSVP to Todd Kennedy at tkennedy at sdsu.edu as soon as possible to secure a
seat. Once you RSVP, you will receive a separate email with the location
and other pertinent details of the seminar as they are solidified.
