Dear Colleagues:

Each year, San Diego State University recognizes outstanding faculty recognizes
outstanding faculty who have contributed the most to the university or on
behalf of the university in such categories as teaching, distinguished
scholarship or professional activity, or other exceptional service. The
awardees each receive a monetary award from the SDSU Alumni Association and
are recognized at Convocation in the Fall. The Faculty Honors and Awards
Committee reviews nominations and recommends those who have made
outstanding contributions to or on behalf of the University. Please refer

Please encourage nominations within your college. Nominations may be made
by students, staff, faculty members, administrators, alumni, or other
members of the university community using the nomination form available here
<http://fa.sdsu.edu/resources/awards>. The Dean’s Office shall convene a
faculty committee to review nominations and provide the committee with
copies of the nomination forms. Committees shall obtain a full curriculum
vitae (if not submitted with the nomination) and other supporting
documentation as necessary.

*TIMELINE*

*February 12, 2018: *Nominations due to Dean’s Office.

*February 23, 2018: *College committee submits up to *three unranked
nominations* to the Dean, except for colleges with fewer than 50 tenured,
probationary, and FERP faculty, which may submit *two unranked nominations*.
*The committee should provide rationale for their selections that convey
the value of each candidate’s contribution to teaching, research, and
community service, as well as the significance and impact of these
contributions.*

*March 2, 2018: *Deans forward unranked nominations *electronically* (including
all supporting documents) to the Faculty Honors and Awards Committee
(FHAC), *in care of the Office of Faculty Advancement *at
*facultyadvancement at mail.sdsu.edu* <facultyadvancement at mail.sdsu.edu>*.*
Deans may submit a cover memo (optional).

The Senate Faculty Honors and Awards Committee will forward its final
recommendations to the President’s Office in mid-March and awardees will be
announced in April.
