*TITLE: *Design of Multi-phase Reacting Flow Processes for Synthesis of
Nano-materials in Flames
*TIME: * 3:30 PM
*LOCATION: * GMCS 314
*SPEAKER:* Dr. Joaquin Camacho, Dpt. of Mechanical Engineering SDSU
*ABSTRACT: *Flame-based nano-material synthesis and device fabrication
processes are promising directions for developing emerging technologies.
Complimentary computational and experimental approaches enable the full
potential of this process to be realized. In this talk, a flame-assisted
chemical vapor deposition process with applications to nano-material
synthesis, nano-material based device design and improved fabrication
processes will be discussed. Multi-phase reacting flow computations of the
flame-based process will be presented along with complimentary experimental
results. An efficient yet powerful pseudo 1D simulation for stagnation
flames will be presented along with applications to carbon, titanium oxide
and manganese nanoparticle formation. Expansion into 2D flame simulations
will be addressed to discuss the treatment of flow perturbations that exist
during experimental sampling of flame aerosols. Finally, the potential for
implementing sequential flame-based steps in a continuous process for
battery electrode fabrication will be explored in terms of a proposed
sintering model for a growing film.
