*ABSTRACT:* A promising method for counteracting anthropogenic production
of CO2 is to store the CO2 in deep underground saline aquifers, thereby
preventing its release into the atmosphere. CO2 stored in such a manner is
trapped by structural, solubility, residual and mineral trapping methods. A
model is presented which couples Darcy flux, poroelastic, reactive
transport, water-rock interaction and thermodynamic models to determine the
effectiveness of storage in a proposed reservoir. Results are shown for a
model reservoir based on the Frio formation pilot test CO2 sequestration
site.
