Marcie,
Good morning. We will be visiting campus next week for a complimentary
MATLAB session for the faculty, researchers, and students. I am included a
copy with this email.
As you may know, MATLAB is now available for all faculty, students, and
researchers at SDSU. Similar to our last visit, would you please share the
invitation with the engineering faculty and students you feel would be
interested in learning more about MATLAB.
Thank you,
Tom

Good afternoon. I hope all is well. I wanted to follow up regarding a
meeting time on July 22nd.
Would Dr. Mehrabadi have about 20-30 minutes on Wednesday, July 22nd? If
so, what time is most convenient?
Also, included in this email is a copy of the invitation. If possible,
would you please share with the faculty and students.

Marcie,
I enjoyed speaking with you. As a follow up to our conversation, we will
be back on campus on July 22nd for a MATLAB technical session for the users.
I was wondering if we could arrange a time to meet with Dr. Mehrabadi on
July 22nd? If so, what time would be available?
Thank you,
Tom

Dr. Mehrabadi,
The goals outlined in SDSU’s Strategic Plan Executive Summary speak to the
need of investing in leading computational tools to support faculty and
student collaboration in pursuit of your research themes engaging the
students including the value of research for student success.
MATLAB is a computational tool *already in use across many departments at
SDSU* and can be leveraged more effectively to help you achieve your
goals. I’d like to schedule 30 minutes with you to discuss how SDSU can
expand the availability of MATLAB to the university’s faculty, researchers,
and students through the Total Academic Headcount (TAH) model and has
helped many universities such as California State University, Fullerton and Cal
Poly San Luis Obispo reach their goals.
Demand for MATLAB in industry is evident with over 900 current job postings
in the San Diego area requiring MATLAB skills according to Simply Hired.
MATLAB is a critical technology for the government and commercial
organizations with whom your researchers collaborate.
*I will be visiting the area on July 1st. Would you be available to
meet? If so, what time would you prefer?*
Below are a few topics that we can discuss in the meeting:
Ø *MATLAB is an essential technology platform for major employers of SDSU
graduates. MATLAB* *is the #1 skill* listed by SDSU alumni in Engineering
and Research professions according to their LinkedIn profiles. A Google
executive recently stated that if you want to work at Google, make sure you
can use MATLAB.
Ø *49 of the 62 AAU member institutions provide MATLAB for everyone,
everywhere through the TAH model*: Broader access to MATLAB software
fosters research, instruction and experiential learning.
Ø *Students are motivated by solving real-world challenges with the same
tools industry leaders are using.* “As educators, we have to appeal to our
students with real problems that motivate them. When students combine the
use of MATLAB and Simulink with hardware to solve practical challenges,
their desire to learn is maximized. Anything short of that is
inadequate.” *Kevin
Craig RPI & Marquette University*
A change like this needs high-level support from academic leadership. I
would like to enlist your support for the idea and your advice and help in
making it a reality.
Thank you,
Tom
