San Diego State University has a long and proud tradition of leadership and
service in this community. The Our Promise <http://www.ourpromiseca.org/>
Initiative (formerly known as the California State Employees Charitable
Campaign) and the United Way <http://uwsd.org/> provide opportunities for
us to take a leadership role in supporting San Diegans who face substantial
social and economic challenges.
Through these efforts, we can *create positive change in San Diego for as
little as $5 per month*. With the convenience of payroll deduction, you can
support the charitable agency of your choice and make a difference in the
lives of people throughout this county.
This year, the Our Promise/United Way Initiative will run from *September
29 through October 31. Designated staff ambassadors will distribute pledge
forms to each employee this week.*
I hope you will join me in participating in this year's initiative with a
first-time or an increased contribution.
SDSU has identified three charitable agencies whose work has a direct and
lasting impact on the San Diego community. Your contribution to these
organizations will reach the men, women and children who need our support.
*The Monarch School*
<http://www.monarchschools.org/>provides a rigorous education for students
impacted by homelessness, teaching the skills necessary to become
contributing members of society. The school serves 400 students annually,
and more than 70 percent of its graduates enroll in post-secondary
education. The Our Promise Initiative Org Code for this organization is
27119.
*The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank*
<http://sandiegofoodbank.org/>distributes food directly to families and
individuals in need at more than 150 distribution sites in the county,
providing nourishment to about 350,000 San Diegans each month. One dollar
can provide up to three meals for the community. The Our Promise Initiative
Org Code for this organization is 25446.
*The Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD)*
<http://www.vvsd.net/>provides services to more than 2,000 military
veterans who have served our country. VVSD services include substance abuse
recovery, mental health counseling, job training and job search assistance,
housing, food, clothing and legal services. The Our Promise Initiative Org
Code for this organization is 14181.
Your contribution to Our Promise <http://www.ourpromiseca.org/> Initiative
and the United Way <http://uwsd.org/> can support one or more of these
charitable agencies or any other charitable agency of your choosing.
In the spirit of giving back, you are invited to join your colleagues and
volunteer your time at the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank
<http://sandiegofoodbank.org/>. Volunteer opportunities for SDSU employees
and their families are scheduled four times a year. For more information
about the volunteer opportunities at the food bank contact Andrea Dooley at
adooley at mail.sdsu.edu.
