[Faculty] Announcement: Dean, College of Engineering

I am pleased to announce that Professor Morteza Monte Mehrabadi will serve
as Dean of Engineering beginning January 1, 2014.

Monte joined SDSU in 2007 as chair of the Department of Mechanical
Engineering. During his time as chair the department has experienced
significant enrollment increases, developed new programs, focused on a
project-oriented curriculum, and increased its research productivity. Prior
to joining SDSU, Monte was Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering at
Tulane University, his alma mater. Monte's research focuses on mechanical
behavior of materials with certain local structural features. He has served
on journal editorial boards and as a visiting faculty member at UCSD, Tohiku
University in Japan, Ecole Polytechnique in France.

The University was extremely well served by the Dean's Search Committee,
chaired by Asfaw Beyene, and including Fatih Buyuksonmenz, Sam Kassegne,
Greg Morris, Khaled Morsi, Marilyn Newhoff, Nagy Nosseir, Mahasweta Sarkar,
Ethan Singer, William Tong and Steve Welter. I am grateful to each of them
for their efforts as well as to the numerous constituent groups that met
with each finalist.
