Great news! I just received notification that our College of Engineering has been selected as one of the Top 20 Best Colleges for Engineering Majors based upon an analysis by Affordable Colleges Online. This honor recognizes not only the quality of our program but the earning potential of our graduates. We should all be proud of this recognition.

Best regards,

Subject: San Diego State University (SDSU) - Main Campus Named Top College for Engineering Majors

Hi David,

I’m excited to share the news that San Diego State University (SDSU) - Main Campus has been recognized for excellence in Engineering education. AffordableCollegesOnline.org (AC Online) recently identified the 20 Engineering programs in the United States with the highest return on investment (ROI). Students who graduate from these programs earn more over their lifetimes, on average, than Engineering graduates from other institutions, after subtracting tuition and fees. You can view your college’s data and rankings, as well as the full list of programs and colleges, via the following pages:

−	AC Online: Best Colleges for Engineering Majors: http://www.affordablecollegesonline.org/college-rankings-online/engineering-colleges-roi/

   −	Homepage: http://www.affordablecollegesonline.org

AC Online used the following criteria to pinpoint the nation’s top Engineering programs:

−	Total weighted cost (provided by IPEDS)
   −	30-year Net ROI (provided by PayScale.com)
   −	4-year degree-granting institution
   −	Fully accredited institution
−	Must offer Engineering at the undergraduate level
   −	Private, for-profit institutions excluded

Next Monday, we plan to distribute a press release to local and national news outlets. We’ve included a preview of that press release below. In the meantime, please feel free to promote your rankings when and where you’d like. Also, I’m more than happy to provide high-resolution images of the rankings “badge”, if needed.

Congratulations on providing students with a highly valued post-secondary Engineering education. Enjoy promoting your new ranking.

Sincerely,

*AffordableCollegesOnline.org Identifies Engineering Programs with Best Lifetime Return on Investment*

SAN FRANCISCO, August 26, 2013 – AffordableCollegesOnline.org (AC Online) – today’s number one resource for college affordability and financial aid information – has identified the nation’s top Engineering programs for lifetime return on investment. Graduates from these schools enjoy the largest earnings gap between non-degree holders over thirty years, and earn more on average than Engineering graduates from other schools.

“It’s important to select a major field that you’re passionate about,” said Dan Schuessler, founder of AC Online. “But it’s also important to find a college -- and a program -- that offers the best chance to turn passion into paycheck.”

AC Online developed the following criteria for consideration as a “High ROI Engineering program”:

−	Total weighted cost (provided by IPEDS)
   −	30-year Net ROI (provided by PayScale.com)
   −	4-year degree-granting institution
   −	Fully accredited institution
−	Must offer Engineering at the undergraduate level
   −	Private, for-profit institutions excluded

AC Online compiled a list of schools meeting these criteria by using the following authoritative data sets:

−	NCES (http://nces.gov/), the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education. It provides consistent, reliable, complete, and accurate indicators of education status and trends.

−	IPEDS (http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/), the primary federal source for data on colleges, universities, and technical and vocational postsecondary schools in the U.S.

−	Carnegie Classification (http://classifications.carnegiefoundation.org/), a framework widely used in the study of higher education, both as a way to represent and control for institutional differences, and also in the design of research studies to ensure adequate representation of sampled institutions, students, or faculty.

−	PayScale.com (http://www.payscale.com/about/methodology), the premier salary data collection organization.
