Dear Colleagues:

 

The College of Engineering will hold its annual fall retreat for all faculty
on August 24th.  

 

This year's retreat is particularly significant in light of changes
anticipated to occur over the next year, including the selection of a new
University President and, hopefully, initial restoration of state funding
for higher education.  During the summer, the College's Executive Committee
met extensively to discuss these changes and to develop a draft Positioning
Plan, which includes a revised Mission and Vision Statement and new
Strategic Initiatives.   Once adopted, the Strategic Initiatives, and the
measureable objectives developed to achieve them, will guide the College's
activities and accomplishments during the next 18 months. 

 

The purpose of the meeting on the 24th is to introduce the College's newly
revised Mission and Vision Statement, to review the proposed Strategic
Initiatives, and to solicit input from all faculty on these items.   Input
from this meeting is critical if we are to develop a Positioning Plan that
reflects faculty views and guides our direction and decisions with consensus
over the next 18 months.  This is an important conversation and I ask that
each faculty member plan to attend.  

 

The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Extended Studies room 206-208.  A
draft agenda is attached. Please RSVP your attendance for the Faculty
Retreat to Cindi at 4-6062 or cmcclain at mail.sdsu.edu.

 

I am also excited that the College will again host our annual faculty and
staff reception and dinner aboard the Berkeley!  It's a great event and a
great time to reconnect.  Please be certain to RSVP for the Berkeley Dinner
to Kaitlin or Arlene in the Dean's Office at 4-6061 or
agibson2 at mail.sdsu.edu.  I look forward to seeing each of you again on the
24th.
