[Faculty] Informational Faculty Meeting

Dear Colleagues:

 

This past Friday, an informational faculty meeting was held.  The discussion
focused on the anticipated state budget for the 2010-2011 year; in
particular, how the University would respond to another reduction in the
state budgets.  The Provost is asking each college to perform a planning
exercise based upon a potential reduction of up to $50 million in state
appropriations to San Diego State University next year.  I am attaching the
slides that were presented at the meeting along with two additional slides
that I used in yesterday's Deans Advisory Board meeting.

 

Over the next few weeks, I will be forming an ad hoc budget advisory
committee to begin work on this planning exercise.  I am also available to
meet with departments as part of their regular meetings to discuss the
budget and its implications.  Although initiating a planning exercise may
seem premature, I feel that the Provost is being prudent in her decision to
do so.  I will continue to share new information as it becomes available.
